FORMATION OF THE PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES IN THE COURSE OF TRAINING OF THE PROFESSIONALLY ORIENTED TRANSLATOR

 

The work of the professionally oriented translators and interpreters in the sphere of the professional communication is a prospective one due to new political and economic realia. The participants of the program “Translator in the field of professional communication” are the specialists possessing certain professional competences in the certain professional sphere who while doing the course are to obtain translation competences.

One of the central subjects of the curriculum of this program is professionally oriented translation.

In the course of learning the participants study terminology as well as look into the linguistic and extra-linguistic peculiarities of the communication in different spheres, in particular, language and material ralia of this or that professional sphere of the target language countries. Consequently, while teaching professionally oriented translation it is necessary to take into consideration the fact that the students have to form professional language, inter-cultural and social competences.

Participants of the additional education program “Translator in the field of professional communication” are specialists in a certain area of knowledge, therefore, their language training will be concentrated on this area of knowledge, which greatly facilitates the task of translating special texts in their future professional activities

One of the difficulties while translating special vocabulary is the translation of terms and terminological phrases, formed by semantic rethinking of lexical units, their transfer from other languages, other terminological systems of their language, as well as from common vocabulary.

For example, lawyers and economists should take into consideration the peculiarities of the economic and political systems of the USA, Russia and Great Britain:

- Court of error – апелляционный суд в ряде штатов США;

- Court of Appeal – апелляционный суд в Великобритании;

- Secretary of the Treasury – министр финансов в США;

- Chancellor of the Exchequer – министр финансов в Великобритании.

Thus, to make the program of additional professional education “Translator in the field of professional communication” successful it is necessary to provide the students of the program with authentic materials for translation and interpretation. It is recommended to use the texts of different genres including fiction with a great number of terminological vocabularies, for example, John Gresham “The Client”, R. Harrison “The Ghost”, D. Brown “The origin”.
